PERFECTION IS A JUDGE AGAINST THE LIVING
PERFECTION IS A JUDGE AGAINST THE LIVING
PERFECTION IS A JUDGE AGAINST THE LIVING’s overarching aim is to express my view on the people that I observe, whether it is truly factual or not. Addressing the familiar perceptions and stereotypes connected to these groups will work in tandem with my own isolated view.
PERFECTION IS A JUDGE AGAINST THE LIVING is most simply a collection of characters. Each character is a stereotyped representation of a larger, more general group of people; women, teenagers, celebrities, real-life americans, and men. The characters; Billie, Stella, Leo, Oliver, and Sloane, hold a personality just as any normal human does, which is shown through both their collection look and their accompanying short story that further informs who they are. Design details of the collection will be associated with the “personality traits” of the characters; some may overlap to communicate cohesion along with the varying similarities of humankind, but in the end each “person” or look will be entirely different and their own.
The characters are fictional people, composed of what my imagination has made them out to be, all informed by society’s views and judgements of what these individuals should represent and how they should behave and present.

research summary.
My research revolved heavily around common misconceptions and person perception and the psychological approach to people watching. I was obsessed with the idea that people generally form impressions of others very quickly, even if they had minimal information. I was no exception to this.
I’ve made my own “people-watching diaries” for as long as I can remember, and realized that these “diaries”, these fictional stories I made up for the people I saw in my daily life, was me engaging unconsciously in all of these generalizations, judgements, and perceptions that I wasn’t even aware of.
I chose these extremely broad groups of people to focus on; teenagers, women, men, real-life Americans, and celebrities, because I wanted to be familiar enough with these groups to create a character that fit within those loose confines, but was also very much open to interpretation by the reader of their unique story.
